Emerging research indicates that up to 25% of American adults are estranged from a family member at some point. They don't need to carry the weight of that reality alone.
If you're ready to discuss ruptures and work on repair with a family member, ask Rebecca about a family therapy session.
The winter holidays aren't far off, and the season can be especially challenging for people who are not in contact with family members. The goal of this 8-week virtual support group is to help estranged adult children find connection and community, explore their personal values and learn more about setting, holding and adjusting healthy boundaries. We'll discuss attachment, rupture and repair, personal and family values, assertive communication, and coping with difficult emotions such as ambivalence and grief. Group runs Fridays from 12-1:30pm.
Participants must be 18 years or older, live in North Carolina, be able to verbally communicate in English, and have an established relationship with an individual therapist. (This group is not a substitute for psychotherapy and does not initiate a therapeutic relationship.) Group members agree to attend at least 7 of the 8 group sessions. Group members agree to respect the values of anti-racism, body-neutrality, and welcoming inclusion of LGBTQ+, BIPOC and disabled folks.
Although the pain of estrangement impacts everyone involved, this group is not appropriate for parents estranged from adult children.
